Styling: Polka Dots

Reading recently a tirade against this classic print, I felt compelled to defend it! It is unfairly dismissed as clown-ish, or a “trend” from a few years ago, etc. While everyone is entitled to their opinion, I wanted to encourage y’all to embrace prints that make you happy and understand a little about the stripes younger, fun sister. I have several pieces in different colors and varying sizes of the dot, and I find it to be very versatile. French women definitely embrace this as a classic and I see it on the streets often; it is not a “trend” as the internet likes to try and influence people about. Scarves, tops, and skirts are fun options to layer the polka dot into your wardrobe. Here are a few ways I’ve worn them recently!

I love the ease of a black and white based polka dot dress - cotton with pockets and could be dressed up or down. Add gold sandals and a fancier bag, and voilá - wedding guest ready! Here I am wearing with a denim jacket and purple flats for a chic late spring pop.

Love this more abstract polka dot which is strappy and I just popped on my denim chore jacket to give this feminine dress a more casual vibe. I had to take advantage of the wisteria when it was blooming in April!

A cute Kate Spade silk blouse I styled here less “office-y” and paired with dark straight leg denim and loafers. In general I do this with silk or lace blouses to make them less fussy-looking and more effortless á la Français!

This polka dot combines the print with a favorite color of mine - green! A bit of personality is always welcome here in Paris, so I used the fabric belt as an accessory for my basket bag. Then, I utilized a wide black belt over the dress paired with demure flats for a classic look.

Even the smallest accessory looks great in polka dot - a bit of flair to the otherwise plain crème of my sweater.

I hope this inspires you to look at your wardrobe and see the fun polka dot in a new way!
